Fake prince's luxuries to fund medical research
The Newman Government has resolved to funnel all funds raised from accused fraudster Joel MorehuBarlow back into his former workplace, Queensland Health.
While the confiscated cash of criminals usually goes to Treasury's coffers, the $11.9 million expected to be raised from the fire sale of the fake prince's property will be spent on specific health programs.
These include $1.7 million to vaccinate Queensland boys against the human papilloma virus and $1 million for Breastscreen Queensland to upgrade equipment and provide an additional 3,835 services.
Health Minister Lawrence Springborg yesterday told The CourierMail the scandal had symbolised the previous government's "carefree culture of waste and mismanagement".
"And it gives me great personal satisfaction to see that the riverfront apartments, luxury motor vehicles and designer fashionwear that were purchased under the watch of Labor being converted into critical health programs under the LNP,hollister france," he said.
MorehuBarlow's belongings from a $5.65 million New Farm apartment to a rhinestone hair clip have either already been sold or are awaiting auction.
Mr Springborg said there was no doubting the success of Gardasil and vaccinating boys was an important next step.
"We hope by vaccinating boys, it will help eliminate cervical cancer among Queensland women," he said.
Other funding will include $1.37 million to the "Know Your Numbers" campaign run by the National Stroke Foundation and $1.9 million to continue the Queensland Quitline service.
The Newman Government will also invest $850,000 into cancer research at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and a further $850,000 on establishing a chronic disease prevention centre in Cairns. |
